10 Facts You Didn't Know About Microsoft

10 Facts You Didn't Know About Microsoft

It really seems impossible that any one of you might not know about the Microsoft, but here is 10 facts you didn’t know about this company.

1. It is impossible to create a folder with the name “Con” or “con” on Microsoft operating systems and in case, you attempt to make one with the name C-o-n, you’ll get an error message saying that the drive name is invalid. The more unusual is the sound it makes when you attempt to create such a folder. Why would any name be invalid?

2. Secondly, when “=rand(200,99)” without quotations is entered or typed into Microsoft Word, something equivalent to (I must say) electronic sneeze occurs. If that line mentioned above is entered and then hit the ‘Enter’ key, the document is instantly filled with over four hundred thousand words. Another interesting fact is that when you scroll down the page, the setting has changed, so that you never scroll past a page break Have you observed it before?

3. Bill Gates, the founder and cornerstone of Microsoft officially left the company. Although, it was Bill Gates, who alongside Paul Allen started the company from the ground up. It was many of Bill Gates’ ideas that pushed Microsoft to be the top software company in the World. Now as Bill Gates left Microsoft, so let us all hope for their sake that some of his genius has worn off on the employees of the company.

4. Google challenges the supremacy of Microsoft by offering FREE software on the web some way behind. Now that Google has entered the competition with their free software and much more, now it seems increasingly difficult for Microsoft to keep its hold on its place in the heats and more importantly, the computers of their loyal customers, as now that Google offers for FREE its products as compared to the fairly expensive products offered by Microsoft. Now its time for a need of Bill Gates and his expertise to tackle the situation and proceed further.

5. Microsoft Windows is currently installed on almost over ninety percent of all computers worldwide. This is close to billions of computers. This is a true testament to the framework set for the company by its founders. Furthermore, Microsoft Office makes up a replica of around ninety percent of all office based software currently used on those same computers worldwide. Because of this, Microsoft has been ordered to pay an antitrust fine of four hundred and ninety seven million euros. This fine was ordered in 2004 and paid in 2007. Apparently not all people find it inspiring that Microsoft done so well.

6. Although everyone knows that Microsoft has created the Xbox game system which has people praising all over the internet. Xbox Gaming system is no doubt one of the best gaming system available today. It is not known to everybody, however, that the old Encarta program that was sold on CD for computer has been reincarnated online by Microsoft. In addition to this, the more popular Microsoft Mouse is also prominent. But above all, in competition with the ever popular Apple’s iPod, the Microsoft Zune is an alternate source for MP3 on the go.

7. MSNBC is a child, so to speak, of Microsoft. Up until they were equal owners in the television network. However, afterwards Microsoft decided that it was in its best interest to quit the partnership keeping its fifty-fifty hold over the MSNBC website which is still running strong.

8. Microsoft has been trading stocks since 1986. Whoever decided to buy stock in such a new company back in 1986 would today be very happy at the decision. Microsoft has the third highest stock market capitalization in the united States at a total of two hundred and seventy billion dollars. This puts them easily above and beyond its competitors like Google, Apple and IBM. It is amazing that the margin between companies with such similar products. Google is making a comeback with their aforementioned free software, but Apple may want to think twice before bragging about their own superiority.

9. Microsoft Corporation opened its first research lab in Redmond, Washington back in 1991. Because of this, it was one of the first computer companies to create its own computer science research organization.

10. The name of the company was at first Micro-Soft and was first conceived in a letter written by Bill Gates and sent to his partner Paul Allen. After it was first mentioned it was deemed to be better as one word and was shortened to what we all know today. The first mention of the name was in 1975 and stuck until it was officially trademarked a year later. It seemed that Bill and Paul liked the single word instead of the hyphenated Micro-Soft.

Fun Facts and Trivia about Earthworms

Fun Facts and Trivia about Earthworms
Folk names for the earthworm include"dew-worm","Rainworm","night crawler"and "angleworm" (due to its use as fishing bait).Earthworm belong of the class Oligochaeta (phylum Annelida)—in particular, members of the genus Lumbricus. One of the most detailed studies of earthworm activities was conducted by English naturalist Charles Darwin.Charles Darwin spent 39 years studying  earthworms more than 100 years ago. Darwin said, “It may be doubted that there are many other animals which have played so important a part in the history of the world as have these lowly organized creatures.”

Did you know the ancient Egyptians were the first to recognize the beneficial status of the earthworm? Cleopatra (69 – 30 B.C.) recognized the  earthworms’ contribution to Egyptian agriculture and declared them to be sacred.Removal of earthworms from Egypt was punishable by death.Egyptian farmers were not allowed to even touch an earthworm for fear of offending the god of fertility.

The Ancient Greeks considered the earthworm to have an important role in improving the quality of the soil. The Greek philosopher Aristotle (384 – 322 B.C.) referred to worms as “the intestines of the earth”.

Worms are hermaphroditic, meaning that they possess both sets of sex organs. However, they still need to mate with another worm in order to produce offspring. The raised band that encircles the worm is actually a carrying case for its eggs. Once the eggs are formed, the band migrates along the worm's body and it is then shed and the eggs left to hatch.

The benefits of earthworms are well-known.They are tireless tillers of our soils and their castings are the richest and best of all fertilizers. It would be impossible to ever have too many in our gardens, unless you don't want lush, healthy plants!

Earthworms:have been kept alive for 6 years,but in the wild probably live two years at the most;
do not have lungs, breathe through their skin, and can live under water for a while;do not come to the surface during rain to escape drowning, but rather to find a mate since their mobility is much better on wet ground;lack eyes but are light sensitive;can detect the motion of a robin (that can hear the earthworm in its burrow);may survive being frozen if the freeze is not too rapid.

WORM FACTS
  • SMALLEST Less than an inch.
  • LARGEST 22 Foot found in South Africa.
  • An earthworm has a brain, five hearts, and “breathes” through its skin.
  • An earthworm produces its own weight in casts everyday.
  • There are over 1 million earthworms in one acre of soil.
  • Earthworms can burrow as deep as fifteen feet.
  • Earthworms are 82% protein and are a food source for many people around the world.
  • Eating earthworms can reduce cholesterol, as the basic essential oil of earthworms is Omega 3.
  • Fishermen use them as bait.
  • Best example of how to recycle.
  • Eat food, yard, and garden waste and turns it into nutrients needed by plants.
  • Help aerate the soil.
  • Make it easier for plant roots to grow.
  • Help the soil hold more water.

Earthworms are like farmers because they plow the soil.Earthworms plow the soil by continually  moving around in it creating channels where roots can grow. Then as they create the channels, they mix the nutrients they produce with the soil to help make the top level of the soil more fertile.

Worm tunnels allow more water to enter the soil .

They act as a duct for rain & oxygen.Help reduce dangers of water-caused erosion!By letting the water infiltrate into the soil quicker!

Worm tunnels make it easier for roots and plants to grow.As roots grow and reach the worm tunnel they can get into the ground easier!

Worm tunnels allow air to enter the soil.Worms break through the muddy soil after rainfall. These openings in the soil help with successful root and plant growth and allow air to enter the soil!

Worm castings are a mixture of organic substances, microorganisms, and soil. When passing through the digestive system of the worm these are mixed together forming an awesome fertilizer. The worm castings have a higher concentration of nutrients than the surrounding soil.Plants with roots growing in tunnels lined by worm castings show a better uptake of nutrients and healthier growth.

An earthworm can grow only so long.A well-fed adult will depend on what kind of worm it is,how many segments it has,how old it is and how well fed it is.

A worm  has no  arms, legs or eyes.

There are approximately 6000 different kindsof earthworms.

In one acre of land, there can be more than a million earthworms.

The largest earthworm ever found was in South Africa and measured 22 feet from its nose to the tip of its tail.

Worms are cold-blooded animals.

If a worm’s skin dries out, it will die.

They don't have teeth but they have strong mouth muscles.Dew worms or nightcrawlers often surface at night to pull fallen leaves down into their burrow. When the leaf softens a little they pull off small bits to munch on. Worms also "swallow" soil as they burrow.

It takes more than 500 years to form one inch of topsoil.

In one gram of soil, there are over 5,000 different types of bacteria.

Nearly all antibiotics used to fight our infections are obtained from soil organisms

One tablespoon of soil has more organisms in it than people on Earth.

High earthworm populations contribute to biological pest control as soils with earthworms has been shown to have far fewer parasitic nematodes than soil without earthworms. Many other soil borne diseases also appear to be reduced.

Earthworms gradually deepen the topsoil layer by burrowing into the sub-soil and translocating fine mineral particles to the surface in the form of castings.

Earthworms solve waste problems by composting organic matter.Composting with worms occurs four times faster than normal composting.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel

Marina Bay Sands Hotel
Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort fronting Marina Bay in Singapore. Developed by Las Vegas Sands, it is billed as the world's most expensive standalone casino property at S$8 billion, including cost of the prime land.
With the casino complete, the resort features a 2,561-room hotel, a 1,300,000-square-foot (120,000 m2) convention-exhibition centre, the 800,000-square-foot (74,000 m2) The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands mall, a museum, two large theatres, seven "celebrity chef" restaurants, two floating Crystal Pavilions, an ice skating rink, and the world's largest atrium casino with 500 tables and 1,600 slot machines. The complex is topped by a 340m-long SkyPark with a capacity of 3,900 people and a 150m infinity swimming pool, set on top of the world's largest public cantilevered platform, which overhangs the north tower by 67m.The 20-hectare resort was designed by Moshe Safdie Architects. The local architect of record was Aedas Singapore, and engineering was provided by Arup and Parsons Brinkerhoff (MEP). The main contractor was Ssangyong Engineering and Construction.
Originally set to open in 2009, Las Vegas Sands faced delays caused by escalating costs of material and labour shortages from the onset. The severe global financial crisis also pressured the company to delay its projects elsewhere to complete the integrated resort.Although Marina Bay Sands has been compared on scale and development costs to MGM's CityCenter, the latter is a mixed-use development, with condominium properties (comprising three of the seven main structures) being sold off.
The resort was officially opened with a two-day celebration on 23 June 2010 at 3.18 pm, after a partial opening (which included the casino) on 27 April 2010.The SkyPark opened a day later on 24 June 2010.
